About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover A calling male spadefoot toad (Spea bombifrons) being assessed by a female. Spea bombifrons females have higher fertilization success by selecting high-quality mates. In contrast, females of a sympatric congener (Spea multiplicata) forego this benefit in order to ensure mating with members of their own species. See Pfennig, pp. 220-227. Photo by David Pfennig.
