About the Cover

Cover Figure

The Spinner dolphin (Stenella longirostris) is named for its habit of leaping from the water and spinning on its long axis; often several revolutions in a single leap. Usually, an individual performs a series of spinning leaps, with each successive leap less vigorous. Throughout the day, spinning leaps are most frequent in the morning and late afternoon; nocturnal pattern is little known. See Karczmarski et al., pp. 675-685.
