About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover A two-year-old breeding male of the eagle owl Bubo bubo perches on one of its call posts at sunset. This species mainly performs territorial displays at crepuscular hours, like sunset and sunrise. As reported in this issue, vocal displays of such a crepuscular/nocturnal bird are associated with visual signalling by a broad white badge on the throat. Visual signalling seems to play an important role during territorial contests (see Penteriani et al., pp. 143-147). Photo by V. Penteriani.
